Bach to the swinging grooves of Sinatra. Discover a quirky and surprising take on classical, jazz, and pop styles, performed by bassoonist and vocalist Michael Hope and bassist Matt Heller.
Baby Food Blitz
Hello Everyone..for this year, we have decided that the Baby Food Blitz will be held in APRIL. Food Bank Sunday is April 15th but the Blitz will also include Sunday, April 22nd. This is the eleventh year we have participated in focusing on BABY FOOD and this came out of being told during our original tour of the Food Bank that baby food is at the top of their Needs List. Donations of baby cereal or jars of baby food would be gratefully received by the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank. In the past, some folks have preferred to give a cash donation and Carole Thomson has done the shopping. I will gladly do that again this year as well. Thank you for your support of this ministry.
Out on the Town
April’s Out-on-the-Town will be hosted by Brian & Margot Skinner. Dinner will be at Scopa Neighbourhood Italian restaurant on April 24 at 6:30pm. The address is 2220 Centre St. N. If you are interested and not on the group list, please speak with Brian or Margot.
Communications Development
We are beginning a process of looking for some expertise to improve our communications in at least 3 areas: graphic design, website maintenance and social media. If you or someone you know have some skills and passion in this area, please let us know!
Youth Confirmation
A program for youth who are considering confirmation will begin after church on Sunday, April 22. We will be exploring our Anglican expression of Christian faith along with young people from St. Barnabas. For more information and to register, please contact Christine.
Finance Update
We are happy to report that over 50% of our monthly budgeted donations come through pre-authorized debit. Many thanks to all who have signed up. At the end of February, we have a small operating deficit of just over $5000.
60th Anniversary Planning meeting
Planning is proceeding well. An anniversary video is being worked on the Ruth and John (see the other notice). The anniversary dinner night format and meal was agreed to. The outdoor items (bench, little library and bike rack) have been organized and will be purchased and installed in late spring. Once plans for the celebration weekend are finalized in the next month we will provide details and handouts.
Anniversary Video
Ruth Mauel will be making a video which will run during our Anniversary celebration dinner on September 15th.
The video will be short historical vignettes from 1958, alternating with videoed memories and hopes from as many of St. Andrew’s parishioners as possible.
We would like people to focus on three questions:
1) What brought you and your family to St. Andrew’s church?
2) What keeps you at St. Andrew’s?
3) What is your dream of the future for St. Andrew’s?
Ruth will be setting up her video camera between the Sunday services on April 8th, 15th, and 22nd, and invites everyone to think on the questions above, and share their answers with their fellow parishioners.

Companions of the Bishop
On May 14, 2018 we are planning our next “Companions of the Bishop” Dinner. This Dinner will be held at the Ranchmen’s Club in Calgary. We are pleased to have Primate Fred Hiltz as our Guest Speaker, presenting his thoughts on the theme “The Church In and For the World.”
This fundraising event is for the Bishop’s Discretionary Fund, which covers expenses that the Bishop incurs that are not covered by the Diocesan budget, especially in supporting clergy of the Diocese. This will be an opportunity to support the Bishop’s discretionary fund financially with a suggested donation of $250. Charitable donation receipts will be issued by the Diocese automatically for donations over $25. The cost of the dinner is $75 per person (no receipt).
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Marcus Herrel at herrelmarc@gmail.com.
Compost Collection at St. Andrew’s
St. Andrew’s has begun collecting compostable materials in the downstairs and upstairs kitchens. The program will help us keep food and yard waste out of the landfill. It also complies with The City of Calgary’s Waste & Recycling Bylaw that requires onsite diversion of food and yard waste at all businesses and organizations. There are posters in the kitchens describing how to sort the various types of trash we produce on Sundays and throughout the week. Thanks for your help keeping St. Andrew’s clean!
