Do You Need A Prayer For Yourself Or Someone You Love? – Before the service please complete a ‘Prayer Request’, which you’ll find on the counter closest to the stairs in the Narthex (Lobby). Please feel free to experience the blessing of presenting your care and concern to God in prayer. For our new parishioners – do you need someone to say a prayer for you or a member of your family or a friend? We have a very active prayer chain in the parish and we would love to include you in our prayers. Just phone any of us – it doesn’t matter where you start, as the prayer will go around the chain quickly. We are The Rev. Christine Conkin, Pat Barton, Monica Edwards, Hilda Cox, Susan Chivers, Saro Zachariah, Pauline Booth & Avis Bruton.

Society of St. John the Evangelist is an Anglican religious order that creates various spiritual resources through the year. For Lent this year they have created a 6-week program based on the 5 Marks of Mission, understood as 5 Marks of Love. For a free workbook and to sign up for daily emails, please go to: http://ssje.org/ssje/5marksoflove
The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) has produced daily Lenten devotionals particularly focused on food security and food sovereignty. For more information, go to: http://pwrdf.org/resources/seasonal/

Free Public Lecture
Professor Teresa Morgan (University of Oxford), ‘God’s Empire: The Roman Empire and the Formation of Primitive Churches’
How did the earliest Christians see themselves? As a new people? A new race? A family, cult, or school? Scholars have proposed all these and more.
This lecture will explore how Paul of Tarsus describes the coming of God’s kingdom and life in the kingdom, and argue that his model is in fact the Roman empire. This makes Paul a fascinating example of the influence of Rome on its subjects, and puts Christians in a unique relationship with Rome and the rest of the empire.
Date: Monday, April 10th, 2017 Time: 7:30 pm
Location: University of Calgary, Energy Environment and Experiential Learning (EEEL) Building, room 210
All are welcome to this lecture and reception hosted by the Department of Classics and Religion (University of Calgary) and the Friends of Mediterranean Studies (formerly the Calgary Society for Mediterranean Studies)
Tax Receipts
2016 Tax Receipts have been handed out and mailed. If you are expecting a receipt it should arrive in the mail by February 13th. Please review your receipt right away and contact me if you have any concerns. Cheryl and I will be away for the month of April and it will be difficult to issue a duplicate receipt before April 30th. John MacKinnon 403-282-0074.
New website
Our new website is now up and running! It includes an events calendar and a password protected membership directory (ask Kate for the password). We need your help in filling it out with pictures of you and your family, along with parish events, activities, and groups. Please send your pictures or event information to Kate in the office. Check it out at http://www.st-andrews-anglican-calgary.ca and give us your feedback as we work out any kinks that may arise!
Financial News
St. Andrew’s family has rallied to raise most of the funds to update our parking entrance and our Building Committee is working to be ready for completing it later in the spring. Kudos to everyone for their great support. Our operating deficit to the end of February is -$7,513, which is close to budget and the increasing numbers of direct deposits is encouraging.
Flower Calendar
The following dates are available for flower dedication: April 2, 2017 and May 28, 2017. Please contact Aline Greaves if you are interested (agreaves@shaw.ca).
Parish Photo Directory
St. Andrew’s now has the ability to create a Photo Directory and our own Kara Hallett has kindly offered to be our photographer! Starting on Easter Sunday and for a few of the following Sundays, Kara will be available to take pictures of our parishioners. Our goal is to have the directory ready for June.
Parking update
We are grateful that the management of the Foothills Professional Building (at the corner of 16th Ave & 29 St.) have agreed to allow free parking for St. Andrew’s parishioners on Sunday mornings, from 9:00am-1:00pm! It is roughly a 3 minute walk from their parking lot, through the condo complex and break in the alley fence to St. Andrew’s. If walking this distance is not difficult for you, please use this parking option and leave our parking lot for those with limited mobility, visitors and newcomers.
Did you know….
That on Good Friday you are welcome to head out to Entheos Retreat Centre to walk their prayer path. It is a lovely setting to spend some time enjoying quite prayer and the beautiful surroundings. Entheos is located 18km west of Calgary on Hwy #8.
Attitude of Gratitude
Thank you to Lloyd for being our supply clergy while Christine is on study leave this Sunday.
