Christine will be away on holidays June 29-July 19. During this time, morning prayer will be ably led by teams of parishioners and The Rev. Lloyd Northcott. For emergency pastoral care, please contact The Rev. Carolyn Herold: 403-685-0903 or The Rev. Jane Rowland: 403-324-1958 or Susan Chivers: 403-247-4011

Message from the Bishop
In the light of the gradual “re-opening” of the province, Archbishop Greg released a letter on transition planning. “Not yet” is the primary message. You can read the full letter here: https://www.calgary.anglican.ca/news/the-archbishops-letter-on-transition-planning

Stewardship Update: June
A big thank you to all for your support of St. Andrew’s. The church continues to be financially sound in this pandemic, as we have received steady donations from you, steady revenue from parking and have dropped expenses in a number of areas. We continue to receive the Diocesan grants that were applied for last year. Our year to date at end of May shows that we have essentially the same income as expenses, so we are holding our own.

The Diocesan Treasurer has indicated that they have applied for the Federal Government salary assistance and expect to see some benefit from this in a month or two.

We hope that those who are laid off or temporarily cut back are able to get some of the government grants or relief packages. If you are having tough times, we completely understand that you may not be able to financially support the church in these trying times. We continue to treasure your company and participation in worship.
If you need assistance with anything, please don’t hesitate to contact Christine or the Wardens.

Wisdom Centre:
Living with Uncertainty – Lessons from the Psalms
Friday, September 18th to Sunday, September 20th at Kingsfold Retreat Centre
Covid has been a crash course in uncertainty that none of us signed up for. Come away with us for a weekend at Kingsfold Retreat Centre when we will use the Psalms to look at the myriad emotions all of us have been through and are going through on this journey. The weekend will include worship and presentations and will be co-led by The Rev. Anna Greenwood-Lee, The Rev. Christine Conkin and Helen Barry.
Cost: Single Rooms: $480 per person
Double Rooms: $380 per person
The retreat will start at 3 pm with an early supper on Friday evening and finish shortly after brunch on Sunday.  Kingsfold has distancing protocols in place and has limited this retreat to 16 people including the leaders.  Register by phone starting Tuesday, July 7. Please phone Kelly at 403-249-6184 between 8 and 11 am.  Alternatively you can email her at adminassist@stlaurence.ca  and ask her to call you.

Turbulent 2020s: A Theological Field Guide with Anna Greenwood-Lee and Christine Conkin
Wednesday, September 30, 2020 – Wednesday, October 28, 2020 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm
Location
St. Laurence Anglican Church
5940 Lakeview Drive SW
Calgary, Alberta
Speaker/Facilitator: The Rev. Anna Greenwood-Lee, The Rev. Christine Conkin
Nobody quite knows what is coming for the 2020s but most agree that it is going to be turbulent. Join us as we:
– Get real, even if it means getting smaller
– Reimagine Jesus (not as a bigot)
– Don’t just think about it
– Get off our asses, and into the world
– Trust the Spirit… She is still with us!
We will be joined (through short videos) by some of the biggest voices in the theological/religious landscape today. Together with people like Richard Rohr, Christena Cleveland, Brian McLaren, Nadia Bolz Weber, Brene Brown, and Kathryn Tanner, we will struggle and laugh our way towards theology to see us through the spiritual, political, cultural, and ecological challenges the 2020s promise to bring.
Please stay tuned for more details and registration.  Depending on what happens with physical distancing protocols etc., this course will be held at St. Laurence or online.

Parish List
We have an updated parish list in PDF format. Contact the office if you would like a copy emailed to you, or we can mail a hard copy.

Bowness Food Network: Free Lunch Program!
Help us continue to connect kids in Calgary with a stable source of food – daily bagged lunches! 100% of funds raised will go directly to students, families and individuals in need.
On March 16, 2020 Alberta schools were forced to close due to COVID-19. Within the community of Bowness, a uniquely socioeconomically diverse area of the city, this closure resulted in the loss of up to two meals a day for many students and their families, many of whom relied on accessing breakfast and lunch at school each day.  With this sudden loss in food stability, teachers in Bowness jumped into action to organize food access to impacted families. To learn more about this group and to donate  go to https://ca.gofundme.com/f/yyc-lunches-distribution.

Drop In Centre
The Donation/Recycling Centre at 3640 11thA St. N.E. is still open (reduced hours and staff) and is accepting clothing, bottles/cans and furniture (no electronics at this time). It is open Mon.-Fri. , 8:30 to 3:30.
If you have clothing/bottle/can donations but are unable to transport them, Carole and Dave T are able to transport for you.

Covid-19 related Resource information:
Calgary Alliance for the Common Good has created a resource page with information about all the different government announcements. It can be found at:  https://www.calgarycommongood.org/resources_to_help_during_covid_19

Donations
Church operations are obviously much different than they were just a few weeks ago, but we’re not closed! We are most grateful for your continued donations. If you normally donate by cheque, you can send it by mail. Pre-authorized debit continues and you can join or make adjustments by contacting John MacKinnon (johnm9@telus.net). We also have an “account” with CanadaHelps you can access here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/129209680RR0001-st-andrews-anglican-church/

Calgary Alliance for the Common Good
The next webinar is Thurs. July 9 at 7pm, about Building Resiliency for Health and Well-Being.
We are only beginning to understand the significant connections between our mental and physical health. Join us for a webinar on Resiliency Factors for Health and Well-Being to learn about the “mix of six,” resiliency factors that contribute to health and well-being. These resiliency factors: love and support, stress management, sleep, physical activity, diet and healthy environment, can be supported by mind-body practices that reduce stress, including the practice of mindfulness.
Doctors Linda Carlson and Bonnie Caplan will present on resiliency factors, the benefits of mindfulness and share simple mindfulness techniques that can be incorporated into your life for daily stress reduction.

Ministry Opportunity for an organizer!
Adaptive (medical) equipment for homes is needed from time to time by various parishioners. I know there are a number of items “floating around” that people have used following replacement surgeries, for instance. It would be helpful for someone to coordinate a list of such items that could be available as needs arise. Please get in touch with Christine if this is of interest to you! Thanks!

Praying with PWRDF
This is an excellent opportunity for us to make connections during this time of isolation. We can come together by praying with each other from parishes across the county, with PWRDF staff and most importantly with and for our partners.
All the recordings from the past few weeks of prayers can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoQP475xxXQAyzjoXtC0ykA

Did You Know…?
We have copies of the personal devotions “Our Daily Bread” at the church for May and also for June through to August.  They can be picked up in the narthex if you’re at the church or we can drop one in the mail for you if you contact us!

Help Needed
We have parishioners in need of accommodation.  If you know of an available home for rent, please contact Christine.
