Sun. July 16: Food Bank Sunday!
Announcements
Food Bank Sunday (July 16th)
Next Sunday at both the 8 am and 10:30 am services, we will be collecting non-perishable items for the Food Bank. Every little bit helps!
Summer holidays
Christine will be away on holidays July 5-18. Should you need emergency pastoral support during that time, please contact Susan Chivers at 403-247-4011 or chiverss@telus.net and she will contact a priest as needed.
What happened to the front pew?!?
Over the next few months we are experimenting with our interior space in a few ways. In the church sanctuary we are creating a child-size sacred space, and in the narthex we are seeking to improve our communication about our many ministries and to more effectively use our space. It will remain a work-in-progress for a while so please be patient and let Christine or a warden know what you think along the way!
Summer Labyrinth Walk
The flowers in the Silver Springs Botanical Gardens are magnificent. It would be a lovely time to walk the labyrinth. I will plan to be at the parking lot by the baseball diamond/playing field at the end of Silver Springs Drive NW at 10 am on Thursday, 20 July ’17. Hopefully this time of day will be early enough to avoid the heat. If people are interested, we can explore the gardens while we’re there.
This link will provide more information about the gardens: http://botanicalgardensofsilversprings.ca
If you have any questions please contact Wendy Taylor at 403 286 3083 or email wmtaylor@shaw.ca
Children, Youth and Family Ministry
We have not received any applications for our posted position and while we remain open to receiving some, we will work on “what next?” over the summer. Please be in touch with Christine to offer your ideas and energy.
Blank Canvas Fundraiser
Many thanks to all who have participated in this project! A mere 27 tiles remain to be painted (including the 8 not yet donated). This communal artwork will now remain in its almost-finished state until the Fall.
Grounds Improvement
Our parking lot entrance improvements are almost complete! The concrete sidewalks and stairs are in, making that door once again usable. Please watch your step as the handrails are not yet installed. The front and ramp doors are always a good choice!
Anniversary Bash!
Next year, 2018, marks the 60th anniversary of St. Andrew’s! How should we celebrate this milestone? Please consider if you’d like to be involved in some planning work and contact Wendy Taylor (403-286-3083/wmtaylor@shaw.ca) or Dave Thomson (403-241-7990/jdavethomson@shaw.ca) with your ideas!
Financial News
We have raised $29,205 for the upgrade to our grounds, bringing us to within $800 of our fundraising goal! This is a wonderful testament to what we can accomplish together! Our overall giving for general operations also remains strong and so we enter the summer months in good financial shape.
“Ordinary Time!”
In these early days of the long Season after Pentecost, our liturgy becomes a “hodge-podge” of familiar and unfamiliar music. Over the next several weeks, we will be learning some new service music to add to our developing repertoire.
Downstairs Notice Board—Your Contributions
If you have any articles, jokes, information etc. that you would like to share with other members of the congregation, please post them on the notice board headed “Your Contributions”. Please put the posted date on the item. Thanks.
Did you know…there a 4 new blue aprons in the brown cupboard near the kitchen area, for folks to use when working on kitchen duty?
Attitude of Gratitude
We are so thankful that the brickwork is finished on the front of the church!
PWRDF – Are you ready to ride?
On September 30, 2017, The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) will again be participating in the annual Ride for Refuge.
This year, with your help, we’re riding to DOUBLE our impact in Mozambique by providing 50 more women with microfinance loans.
Currently, we support 50 women through CCM de Pemba, a credit cooperative providing a safe place for women to keep their savings and access low-interest loans for small businesses. Profits are reinvested in their businesses and in their families, accessing potable water, food, shelter, clothing and education. Adult women — almost 70% of whom are illiterate — learn to read at night school. All of this means women are empowered to become full partners in in decision-making for their families and their communities as a whole.
Let’s double our impact!. Every $500 raised will provide a woman with a loan to start a small business, improving her own life as well as the lives of her family and her community.
Our goal? $30,000. Our success? It’s up to you.
We’d love to have the parishioners, friends, and community members join us for this important event. The beauty of Ride for Refuge? You can participate in a formal event (in larger cities across Canada) or hold your own bike/walk/whatever event – indoors or outdoors – to make a real and direct difference for the entrepreneurial women of Mozambique and the communities they impact.
For help, advice and support on setting up and managing your Ride for Refuge event, feel free to get in touch with me by phone (416.924.9199/toll-free 1.866.308.7973, extension 306, or via e-mail at cdenomy@pwrdf.org.
Please visit the official Ride for Refuge website at www.rideforrefuge.org/charity/pwrdf to register your team(s) as well as get more information to share on the Ride itself, fundraising incentives, and more.
We’ll be in touch again as Ride for Refuge 2017 rolls closer – see you there!!!
