Announcements
Hot Dog!
Sunday School wraps up this Sunday with a hot dog lunch for the whole parish. Please join us after the service downstairs in the Hall in appreciation of another wonderful Sunday School year!
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The next meeting of St. Andrew’s Prayer Shawl knitters will be held on Monday June 19th at the home of Hilda Cox. New member are always welcome. If you like to knit or crochet and may be interested in joining us in this ministry, please contact Pauline Booth, 403-547-9551 or Hilda cox 403-247-1127 for more information.
Blank Canvas Fundraiser
We have painted and installed about 80% of our tiles! Our next and last painting workshop will be Wednesday, June 21 beginning at 10:00am. We will paint all remaining donated tiles. If you still have tiles to claim, please speak with Christine.
“Ordinary Time!”
As we enter the long Season after Pentecost today, our liturgy becomes a “hodge-podge” of familiar and unfamiliar music. Over the next several weeks, we will be learning some new service music to add to our developing repertoire.
Grounds Improvement
Our parking lot entrance improvements are almost complete! The concrete sidewalks and stairs are in, making that door once again usable. Please watch your step as the handrails are not yet installed. The front and ramp doors are always a good choice!
Children, Youth and Family Ministry
We will gather again in the last week of June (date/time TBD) to consider our next steps for this ministry. We have not received any applications for our posted position and while we remain open to receiving some, we also need to consider how we would like to proceed.
Out on the Town
The next St Andrew’s Out on the Town will be held on Tuesday June 27 at 6:00 pm. We will be going to Chianti, 20 Crowfoot Crescent #300, Crowfoot Crossing Shopping Mall just north of Crowchild Trail, west of Nose Hill Drive, NW. We’d like you to join us. Please come if you can. To register or if you have any questions – phone Ginny Betty, 403-288-0115.
Financial News
We have raised $29,005 for the upgrade to our grounds, bringing us to within $1000 of our fundraising goal! This is a wonderful testament to what we can accomplish together! Our overall giving for general operations also remains strong and so we enter the summer months in good financial shape.
Library News
The following very topical books have been donated to our library. Both of the authors, Justin Lee and Wesley Hill, spoke recently at a Calgary diocesan Generous Listening event.
Torn: Rescuing the Gospel from the Gays-vs-Christians Debate by Justin Lee, Founder and Executive Director of the Gay Christian Network, an inter-denomination organization working to increase dialogue between gays and Christians. This book is an insightful, practical guide for Christians everywhere who struggle with how to relate to gay friends or family members, or with their own sexuality.
Washed and Waiting: Reflections on Christian Faithfulness and Homosexuality by Wesley Hill, Assistant Professor of biblical studies in Trinity School for Ministry in Ambrose, Pennsylvania. As a celibate gay Christian, Hill gives a glimpse of what it looks like to wrestle firsthand with God’s “no” to same-sex intimacy. He offers a fresh perspective, advocating neither unqualified “healing” for those who struggle nor accommodation to temptation, but rather faithfulness in the midst of brokenness.
Downstairs Notice Board—Your Contributions
If you have any articles, jokes, information etc. that you would like to share with other members of the congregation, please post them on the notice board headed “Your Contributions”. Please put the posted date on the item. Thanks.
Parish Photo Directory
St. Andrew’s now has the ability to create a Photo Directory and our own Kara Hallett has kindly offered to be our photographer! Starting on Easter Sunday and for a few of the following Sundays, Kara will be available to take pictures of our parishioners. Our goal is to have the directory ready for June.
Did you know….
that 2018 marks the 60th anniversary of St. Andrew’s?!? How should we celebrate this milestone? Please consider if you’d like to be involved in some planning work!
Attitude of Gratitude
Many thanks to The Caity Gyorgy Quartet, along with hosts Robyn Turner and Larry Pearson, Pauline Booth, Rosemary Christmas, Vicki and Ron Michkofsky for a wonderful night of jazz music, food and conversation.
As Sunday school wraps up for the summer today, a huge shout-out goes to our dedicated Sunday school teachers: Simlie Foscolos, Fiona Greaves and Paul Fritz!
PWRDF – Are you ready to ride?
On September 30, 2017, The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) will again be participating in the annual Ride for Refuge.
This year, with your help, we’re riding to DOUBLE our impact in Mozambique by providing 50 more women with microfinance loans.
Currently, we support 50 women through CCM de Pemba, a credit cooperative providing a safe place for women to keep their savings and access low-interest loans for small businesses. Profits are reinvested in their businesses and in their families, accessing potable water, food, shelter, clothing and education. Adult women — almost 70% of whom are illiterate — learn to read at night school. All of this means women are empowered to become full partners in in decision-making for their families and their communities as a whole.
Let’s double our impact!. Every $500 raised will provide a woman with a loan to start a small business, improving her own life as well as the lives of her family and her community.
Our goal? $30,000. Our success? It’s up to you.
We’d love to have the parishioners, friends, and community members join us for this important event. The beauty of Ride for Refuge? You can participate in a formal event (in larger cities across Canada) or hold your own bike/walk/whatever event – indoors or outdoors – to make a real and direct difference for the entrepreneurial women of Mozambique and the communities they impact.
For help, advice and support on setting up and managing your Ride for Refuge event, feel free to get in touch with me by phone (416.924.9199/toll-free 1.866.308.7973, extension 306, or via e-mail at cdenomy@pwrdf.org.
Please visit the official Ride for Refuge website at www.rideforrefuge.org/charity/pwrdf to register your team(s) as well as get more information to share on the Ride itself, fundraising incentives, and more.
We’ll be in touch again as Ride for Refuge 2017 rolls closer – see you there!!!
