SALT – Community Conversations
We are continuing the conversation! We have chosen 10 topics raised in our initial small group discussions to possibly explore further. Please express your interest in joining a particular conversation by writing your name on a sticky note and signing up in the lower hall. Sign up for any and all that interest you. At the end of March, we will contact those signed up to arrange a time for the discussion. Questions? Ask Dave, Dick, Mitch or Christine!
If you won’t be at church on Sunday, the topics are: senior care; mental health; children, church and christian formation; church music and liturgy; social isolation; immigration & growing ethnic diversity in our neighbourhoods; climate and the environment; addiction and drug use; grief support; role of God in our identity, church and society.
HOLY WEEK
Saturday April 13, 10:00-11:30 am: Multi-Generational Morning of Preparation for Holy Week... Join us for a casual morning to prepare for our journey through Holy Week. Make palm crosses. Colour “Seven Last Words of Jesus” posters. Ask about our liturgical practice. Create “passports” for the week. A great opportunity for seniors, adults, children and grandchildren alike to be church together. Coffee and Timbits will be on beginning at 10:00am!
Palm Sunday, April 14, 8:00 & 10:30am services with holy anointing as we prepare with Jesus for the trial to come.
The sacred journey of the Triduum is “three days” marking important moments in Jesus’ story. Maundy Thursday, April 18 at 6:00pm our service includes a simple soup supper as we contemplate Jesus’ commandment to love one another. Good Friday follows on April 19, with a time of remembrance of Jesus crucifixion at 10:30am. Our Easter celebrations then begin on Saturday evening for the Great Vigil of Easter, April 20 at 8:45pm. These services are a wonderful way of connecting with the holy in our lives, whether it be familiar or for the first time.
On Easter Sunday, April 21, we celebrate resurrection at our regular services: 8:00am & 10:30am. All are welcome.
LENTEN ACTIVITIES !
Lenten Lunches: Each Sunday in Lent we enjoy one another’s company over a bowl of soup following the 10:30am service. Please sign up on the counter in the lower hall to serve one Sunday.
Theological Shifts, Shake-Ups and Rumblings in the 21st Century—here at St. Andrew’s!
Wednesdays from March 13 to April 10, 1:00 – 2:30 pm
Led by The Rev. Anna Greenwood-Lee and The Rev. Christine Conkin, this series will start with the premise outlined by Phyllis Tickle in her book, The Great Emergence that the Church and society today are undergoing a shift of the size and significance which we have not seen since the Reformation. We will then talk about some of the changes already happening and some that might be coming. We look at writings and videos from some of the biggest voices on the religious landscape today: Richard Rohr, Desmond Tutu, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Peter Rollins, Brian McLaren, Cynthia Bourgeault, and Ilia Delio. We will talk about what these shifts and changes might mean to how we understand the authority of the Bible, the authority of science, the authority of Jesus, and the authority of the head and the heart. Kneed to Pray
Connect with the Divine and lift your soul to God. For 6 Tuesdays in Lent, March 12, 19, 26, April 2, 9, 16, you are invited to join a time of simple, communal prayer. 12:10-12:50pm. Beginners welcome! Please contact Susan (chiverss@telus.net or 403-247-4011) for more information.
St. Edmund King and Martyr
In 2018, St. Edmund’s Food Bank distributed 474 hampers, feeding 872 adults and 396 children. The Christmas Hamper Program was able to assist 279 adults and 187 children (including gifts) by distributing 147 hampers. Contributions enable St. Ed’s to provide assistance to families in the community of Bowness, as well as surrounding communities in the Calgary area.

As we approach Easter, Iona Boughton and Katherine Hardhart will be leading this workshop based on the Passion of Christ and entitled “The Way of the Cross.”

Come and join with other women to celebrate God’s great gift of a creative spirit within each of us. Our 30th Annual Gathering – ‘Praying Outside the Lines’ – takes place April 5th-7th, 2019 at Entheos Retreat Centre.
As space is limited, registrations will be accepted on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Please register early to avoid disappointment.

$240 if deposit* and registration received by March 9, 2019
$260 if received after that date.
*A non-refundable deposit of $80 is required to register for this event. Registration fees cover double accommodation, meals and program.

Parking!!
Foothills Village Condo Board has voted to allow us to park in their VISITOR parking on Sunday mornings until 1pm. They have also reopened the fence from their property to our alley! A big thanks to Patrick Carmichael, President of the Board for being such a good friend to St. Andrew’s! If you do receive a ticket, please let Christine know, so we can work out any kinks in the system.
Driver(s) Wanted! We have a few parishioners living at Chartwell Colonel Belcher who need a ride to come to church. It is only a 5 minute drive from church and you need space for a walker. Please let Christine know if you are willing to help fill this pastoral need.

*Our roof is fixed! You may not have known that last winter we experienced some leaking due to heavy snow and ice damming above the office. The issue has been addressed and we’re ready for winter!
*Our budget is 63% for Personnel (Priest, Choir Director & Office Administrator); 11% for the building (utilities, maintenance) and 26% everything else. Talk to a member of Parish Council for more details!
