Spring Concert Series
Please take posters and postcards to share with your friends and in the community. Make a date in your diary for May 15th, 12pm to 12:45pm to catch Matt Heller and Michael Hope kick off our new Spring Concert Series. Feel free to bring your lunch to eat while you enjoy the concert. Free admission.
This concert features four centuries of musical hits! Two Calgary Philharmonic musicians spin a playlist of transcendent tunes, from the sublime counterpoint of J.S. Bach to the swinging grooves of Sinatra. Discover a quirky and surprising take on classical, jazz, and pop styles, performed by bassoonist and vocalist Michael Hope and bassist Matt Heller.
Baby Food Blitz
Thank you to everyone who so generously contributed to the Baby Food Blitz this year. This was a record year for donations to this Outreach initiative, and the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank was the recipient of 320 pounds of baby food. The generosity of this Parish never ceases to amaze me. Blessings to All!! Carole T.
Finance Update
If you are going to be away this spring or summer, please consider signing up for pre-authorized debit using one of the forms in the narthex. If you are already using pre-authorized debit, remember you can top up your donation at any time by using a blank envelope (also available in the narthex) or by using the donation button on our website. Youth Confirmation
Our program of study towards confirmation has begun! Please keep Erik Fritz and Omar Keane in your prayers as they explore their faith. Confirmation will be Sunday, June 24 when we will join our friends at St. Barnabas to celebrate with our young people.
60th Anniversary Planning meeting
A planning meeting was held on May 8th with the following accomplished.
The Little Library and Park Bench designs were finalized and completion is targeted for the end of May.
The bike rack will be ordered next week and be available for installation now that the weather has warmed up.
The format for the Celebration Dinner on Sep 15 at the Varsity Community Association Centre was agreed to and the invitation brochure is being drafted and will start being distributed in a few weeks.
A remembrance for all new baptisms and parishioners who have passed on is being assembled by Gordon Wells. Please contact Gordon (gord.a.wells@gmail.com) to provide pictures and remembrances.
A list of all current and past parishioners and other invitees is now being assembled by Helen Perry (assisted by Aline Greaves), so if you have any contact information about our past parishioners please pass this information over to Helen or Aline (hmrg@telus.net or agreaves@shaw.ca).
Anniversary Video
Thanks to all the parishioners that contributed their time to do a video for us over the past month after church services. We now have very good quality inputs to the Anniversary Video.
This will now be edited into a presentation format that will then be put onto a DVD and be available for members of the parish on the Anniversary Weekend. A shortened version the overall presentation will also be run during the anniversary dinner.
Again many thanks for the contributions. Ruth

Anglican Fellowship of Prayer Conference
404 – 4th Avenue N., Cochrane
Saturday, May 12, 9:00 am – 2:30 pm
Join Bishop Stephen Cottrell as he discusses God’s invitation to “Hit the Ground Kneeling!” What difference can prayer make to our daily lives? How can we pray in a more effective manner? How can we feel more comfortable in prayer?
Bishop Cottrell is a well-known author, and as part of Springboard, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s evangelism team, he is a sought-out speaker and presenter. It is our pleasure and delight to have him with us! To register, please contact bettynadurak@gmail.com.
Theological Shifts, Rumblings, and Shake-Ups in the 21st Century
Join Christine and Anna Greenwood-Lee this summer at Sorrento Centre, Aug 5-11, to explore some theology in a beautiful setting. We will start with the premise outlined by Phyllis Tickle in her book The Great Emergence that the Church and society today are undergoing a shift of the size and significance which we have not seen since the Reformation. We will then talk about some of the changes already happening and some that might be coming. We’ll look at writings and videos from some of the biggest voices on the religious landscape today. For more information or to register, visit: http://www.sorrento-centre.bc.ca.
Companions of the Bishop
On May 14, 2018 we are planning our next “Companions of the Bishop” Dinner. This Dinner will be held at the Ranchmen’s Club in Calgary. We are pleased to have Primate Fred Hiltz as our Guest Speaker, presenting his thoughts on the theme “The Church In and For the World.”
This fundraising event is for the Bishop’s Discretionary Fund, which covers expenses that the Bishop incurs that are not covered by the Diocesan budget, especially in supporting clergy of the Diocese. This will be an opportunity to support the Bishop’s discretionary fund financially with a suggested donation of $250. Charitable donation receipts will be issued by the Diocese automatically for donations over $25. The cost of the dinner is $75 per person (no receipt).
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Marcus Herrel at herrelmarc@gmail.com.
Compost Collection at St. Andrew’s
St. Andrew’s has begun collecting compostable materials in the downstairs and upstairs kitchens. The program will help us keep food and yard waste out of the landfill. It also complies with The City of Calgary’s Waste & Recycling Bylaw that requires onsite diversion of food and yard waste at all businesses and organizations. There are posters in the kitchens describing how to sort the various types of trash we produce on Sundays and throughout the week. Thanks for your help keeping St. Andrew’s clean!
Communion Bread
Would you like to make bread to use for communion? Just let Christine know. You can use any recipe you like, though please try to avoid anything too ‘crumbly.’ See the adult education section of the website for one simple recipe!
