New Parish Council Members
New Parish council members are needed! If you’re interested in being involved in parish governance for a two (2) year term and/or you know someone who would be great, please speak with one of the Wardens or with Christine.

Finance update
A full financial report will be distributed at the end of the month. In the meantime… Through broad community effort, we ended 2017 with an operating surplus! This is great news. It’s also great to know that this came about not from one large donation but from many small additions – a true community effort. Combined with our efforts to fully fund (and then some) our capital improvements outside, we have done great work together to achieve our goals. What a great way to start 2018… let’s keep it going! What’s our next “great”!?!
Confirmation, Reaffirmation, Reception
Our Anglican tradition includes the ritual of commitment to Christian faith known as confirmation. For those baptized as infants, it is part of coming of age in early adolescence but confirmation is not limited to young people. As we grow and mature in our faith, it can be very meaningful to renew our commitment to Christian faith and/or to claim the Anglican way as one’s own. This spring we will have a confirmation preparation program for teens. Adults interested in confirming or reaffirming their faith should also speak to Christine.
Coffee Outcome for the Drop Inn Centre
Thank you to all who contributed to the 2017 Coffee Blitz for the DI. The grand total this year was 222 lbs. Glen, the kitchen manager, asked me to make sure I thanked the congregation and also our priest, Christine. He was standing on the stairs of the loading dock waving good bye as we pulled away! Heartfelt thanks from myself and also from the “Lunch Bunch” who so faithfully serve each month. Carole T.
Altar Flowers
We have a number of dates available for flower dedications in 2018: Apr. 8, Ap. 15, May 27, Sept. 30, Nov. 11 & Dec. 30. If you would like one of these dates, please speak to Aline Greaves.

Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 6:30 pm.
Tuesday special is All You Can Eat Ribs – $21.99

60th Anniversary Planning
Thanks to all, who attended the meetings after church services last week to provide input and comments regarding our 60th Anniversary this year.
The ideas will now be assembled and reviewed with Parish Council and then will be presented at the AGM on Feb 4th . We will outline projects that can proceed (with proposed dates) and indicate those who are interested in helping, plus solicit more volunteers. Dave Thomson
Synod Motion Response
At Diocesan Synod this October, a motion passed requesting the Bishop “to grant permission to any clergy who wish to bless the unions of faithful, committed, Christian same sex couples.” At that time, Bishop Greg indicated he expected to deliver a response by mid-November, but no statement has yet been offered. Anglicans are led by their Bishops and governed by their Synods. If you would like to urge the Bishop to deliver his response to the motion, please contact his office. Postcards with his address are available in the narthex. A copy of the related Anglican Journal article is on the bulletin board downstairs.
If you would like more information on the process in this parish please talk to one of the committee members: Colleen MacNaughton, Will Murphy, Pat Kover, or Lloyd Northcott. For more information on the motion at Synod, please speak with one of our delegates: Philip Zachariah or Jennifer Peters; or our Rector, Christine.
Compost Collection at St. Andrew’s
St. Andrew’s has begun collecting compostable materials in the downstairs and upstairs kitchens. The program will help us keep food and yard waste out of the landfill. It also complies with The City of Calgary’s Waste & Recycling Bylaw that requires onsite diversion of food and yard waste at all businesses and organizations. There are posters in the kitchens describing how to sort the various types of trash we produce on Sundays and throughout the week. Thanks for your help keeping St. Andrew’s clean!
Coffee Ministry
Jeanne Mosca has kindly volunteered to keep an eye on kitchen and coffee supplies. Please let Jeanne know if you notice any supplies are running low. Jeanne can be reached at 403-366-9989 or jmosca@shaw.ca.
