Blank Canvas Fundraiser
Many thanks to all who have participated by donating towards our Grounds Improvement project, dedicating tiles and creating our communal artwork! This Sunday is our last tile-painting workshop  to finish off the 27 tiles left to complete the picture.

How now will we believe?
Tomorrow, Monday September 25, beginning at 7:00pm, we will explore a variety of ideas about the image and nature of God.

Parish Community Conversations
Over the past year(s) we have been through much change in our parish to which there are a variety of different responses and reactions. As part of our broad parish conversation, we are pleased to welcome Don McLeod to join us on Sunday, October 15 to discuss some of the broad cultural changes. We will follow-up with a longer time of discussion in conjunction with a Parish Breakfast on Saturday, November 4. Please plan to join in these important times of connection and communication.

Anniversary Bash!
Next year, 2018, marks the 60th anniversary of St. Andrew’s! How should we celebrate this milestone? Please consider if you’d like to be involved in some planning work and contact Wendy Taylor (403-286-3083/wmtaylor@shaw.ca) or Dave Thomson (403-241-7990/ jdavethomson@shaw.ca) with your ideas!

Brentwood Care Centre
Starting in October, a ministry team from St. Andrew’s will lead monthly worship services at our neighbouring care centre. If you would like to participate, please contact Vicki Michkofsky at 403-282-8492 or michkof@shaw.ca.

Communion Bread
Would you like to make bread to use for communion? Just let Christine know. You can use any recipe you like, though please try to avoid anything too ‘crumbly.’ See the adult education section of the website for one simple recipe!

Finance Update
We are thrilled to announce that we have successfully exceeded our fundraising goal of $30,000 for Grounds Improvement and other capital building projects! Total raised to date is $30,255. In other good news, to the end of August, our operating deficit of $12,500 is  ahead of budget. Praise God as we continue to discover the great work we can do together!

Calling all Quilters and Crafters!
We are looking for people to create some biblically-based “baby banners” for babies and toddlers in our midst to play on/with in church. Talk to Christine or Kara for more information.

Downstairs Notice Board—Your Contributions
If you have any articles, jokes, information etc. that you would like to share with other members of the congregation, please post them on the notice board headed “Your Contributions”.  Please put the posted date on the item.  Thanks.

PWRDF – Are you ready to ride?
On September 30, 2017, The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) will again be participating in the annual Ride for Refuge.
This year, with your help, we’re riding to DOUBLE our impact in Mozambique by providing 50 more women with microfinance loans.
Currently, we support 50 women through CCM de Pemba, a credit cooperative providing a safe place for women to keep their savings and access low-interest loans for small businesses.  Profits are reinvested in their businesses and in their families, accessing potable water, food, shelter, clothing and education.  Adult women — almost 70% of whom are illiterate — learn to read at night school.  All of this means women are empowered to become full partners in in decision-making for their families and their communities as a whole.
Let’s double our impact!. Every $500 raised will provide a woman with a loan to start a small business, improving her own life as well as the lives of her family and her community.
Our goal?  $30,000.  Our success?  It’s up to you.
We’d love to have the parishioners, friends, and community members join us for this important event.  The beauty of Ride for Refuge?  You can participate in a formal event (in larger cities across Canada) or hold your own bike/walk/whatever event – indoors or outdoors – to make a real and direct difference for the entrepreneurial women of Mozambique and the communities they impact.
For help, advice and support on setting up and managing your Ride for Refuge event, feel free to get in touch with me by phone (416.924.9199/toll-free 1.866.308.7973, extension 306, or via e-mail at cdenomy@pwrdf.org.
Please visit the official Ride for Refuge website at www.rideforrefuge.org/charity/pwrdf to register your team(s) as well as get more information to share on the Ride itself, fundraising incentives, and more.
We’ll be in touch again as Ride for Refuge 2017 rolls closer – see you there!!!

The Holy Spirit in our Prayers
“The Holy Spirit helps . . . for we do not always know how to pray as we ought.”  Romans 8:26
Have you had the desire to pray, but didn’t know how to begin?  Have you ever wished you could pray with more fervour, more power, more effect?  Prayer is to be more than just the recital of words; it is an interaction with the Holy Spirit. Prayer is not just a solitary endeavour, it is a cooperation with God!
Speaker: Gene Packwood
Through his work with Anglican Renewal Ministries, Gene Packwood is focused on the role of the Holy Spirit in the prayers of God’s people. He is an informative and engaging speaker, and frequently sought out to speak at prayer conferences.

Creating Dementia-Friendly Congregations
How can our places of worship be welcoming, safe and spiritually fulfilling for those who have cognitive impairments such as dementia or Alzheimer’s? For many of us, we are aware of the need to respond but aren’t sure what that means or how it looks. To help us learn and implement simple yet powerful ways for our churches to become “friendly” places, please come to this morning workshop led by gerontological nurse specialist Mollie Cole, RN. This event is free of charge and will be from 9:00 am to noon on Saturday, November 25th, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 3704 37th St. SW, Calgary. All are welcome, and a special invitation is extended to clergy and other congregational leaders. This event is offered by St. Martin’s Anglican Church. To learn more and to RSVP (by November 20th), please contact the Rev. Natasha Brubaker at 403-510-6615/403-249-3014 or natasha.stmartins.net.
